Explaining the homepage countdown clock

The intention of the countdown clock is to count down to things that are rare. It’s why we do count down most often to football-related items. There aren’t that many games in a season. Plus a bowl game, a spring game, and signing day happen just once a year.

The thought is that the clock has more value (to the public and to an advertiser) if it’s used for rare or special occasions.

It’s why we choose not to count down to basketball and baseball games (there are so many games). But we would count down to an NCAA tournament game, opening day—or a College World Series appearance.

Just sharing this since you’ll see on Saturday night that it will flip and count down to the Southern Miss game. If baseball earns a trip to Omaha, we’ll count down to that.

I’m pretty sure it had been showing the countdown to the next Baseball Game but now I see it’s counting down to the first Football Game again.
I’m superstitious. Please change it back!!!

If I’m wrong, just consider the source and accept my apology!!!

Spur on the homepage

I noticed the spur on the countdown clock says “SC” and not “USC”. Is that the “official” image, or can that be changed?

I live and work in different time zones. It’s difficult enough to know what day, er, time it is.
Could the clock please be changed to reflect the correct time? Or am I in Arizona?
It is now 10:41 pm on the East Coast of the USA.

Why can’t the countdown clock countdown (for lack of better words) basketball games and baseball games? We have it, why not use it? I almost never know when the next basketball game is, and this can help out dummies like myself.

Look, folks, this ain’t hard:

Post a link, GO TO THE QUESTION MARK (?) and delete the question mark and everything behind it.

Your link will work just fine and we won’t have posts that scroll off the right side of the page and become totally unreadable behind the advertisements or just go beyond the page boundaries.

It’s not hard.

All that gobbledygook out there is the routing and rerouting nonsense designed to send you all over the place. All that’s needed is the LINK to the story, not the trash.

I have never figured out why someone who has the ability to edit this stuff doesn’t go in and fix simple links.

Advertising on threads

It is very annoying that you put adds pasted over the text in the forum threads and the home page articles. There is no way to move them or click them out. You can’t read the tread or the article with those things permanently pasted there. I have no problems with adds on here but they should not interfere with the text of the thread. They should be placed outside the text space.
